Cloudflare Registrar domain renewal reminders: how they work and how agencies avoid missing them
Updated 21 October 2026
If your agency manages client domains at Cloudflare Registrar, the registrar's own reminders are only part of the picture. Here's what Cloudflare Registrar documents, and where the gaps usually are for agencies.
What Cloudflare Registrar documents
- Cloudflare Registrar enrols domains in auto-renew by default and renews at the registry's list price.
- The first auto-renew attempt is about 30 days before expiry; if it fails, Cloudflare emails you and retries three more times, with the last attempt the day before expiry.
- Super Admins get a monthly email of domains auto-renewing in the next 45 days and a monthly email of domains expiring in 60–90 days. The WHOIS registrant contact gets weekly, daily (7 days out) and post-expiry emails.
- After expiry: days 1–30 the domain resolves normally, days 31–40 it shows a suspension page, days 41–70 are redemption, days 71–75 pending delete. No further auto-renew attempts are made after expiry.
The ICANN baseline
For gTLDs such as .com, every ICANN-accredited registrar must send at least two reminders before expiry, roughly one month and one week before, plus one notice within five days after expiry. Reminders go to the registered name holder.
Where agencies get caught out
- Reminders go to the registrant, not you. If the client is the registrant, the agency may never see them.
- Auto-renew depends on a working payment method. An expired card means a failed renewal.
- Domains are spread across accounts. One client at Cloudflare Registrar, another at a different registrar, a third in the client's own login.
Note: because a Cloudflare domain keeps resolving for the first 30 days after expiry, a lapse can go unnoticed until the suspension page appears.
Tracking Cloudflare Registrar domains alongside everything else
RenewRoster reads each domain's expiry date and registrar from public RDAP/WHOIS records, so you don't need Cloudflare Registrar logins. It alerts your team at 60, 30, 14 and 3 days and can remind the client under your agency's brand.
