GoDaddy domain renewal reminders: how they work and how agencies avoid missing them
Updated 21 October 2026
If your agency manages client domains at GoDaddy, the registrar's own reminders are only part of the picture. Here's what GoDaddy documents, and where the gaps usually are for agencies.
What GoDaddy documents
- For most domains, GoDaddy says it sends multiple expiration emails in the 30 days before and after the expiration date.
- With auto-renew on, it attempts renewal multiple times, including on the day of expiration and 12 days after expiration for most domains, and may try a backup payment method.
- Its standard timeline: parked at +5 days (website and email stop), final auto-renew attempt at +12 days, removed from the account at +18 days (recovery needs a redemption fee), and listed on its expired-domain auction at +26 days. Many ccTLDs follow different timelines.
- GoDaddy's renewal terms state an $80 fee on top of the renewal price if a domain isn't renewed in the 12-day renewal grace period.
The ICANN baseline
For gTLDs such as .com, every ICANN-accredited registrar must send at least two reminders before expiry, roughly one month and one week before, plus one notice within five days after expiry. Reminders go to the registered name holder.
Where agencies get caught out
- Reminders go to the registrant, not you. If the client is the registrant, the agency may never see them.
- Auto-renew depends on a working payment method. An expired card means a failed renewal.
- Domains are spread across accounts. One client at GoDaddy, another at a different registrar, a third in the client's own login.
Tracking GoDaddy domains alongside everything else
RenewRoster reads each domain's expiry date and registrar from public RDAP/WHOIS records, so you don't need GoDaddy logins. It alerts your team at 60, 30, 14 and 3 days and can remind the client under your agency's brand.
